Really want the new Macbook Pro, but I can't quite afford it at the moment. I know Apple include several smaller refreshes under the radar between major updates like the current one, but I'm not quite sure how far apart they come.
Also, at the moment they have the boring printer offer when you buy a system, anyone know how often the free iPod offers come around instead?
Cheers!

Updates replace changed files. Softare Update merely automates what you would do when you manually download updates. IMHO, the reports that you heard about updates originate between the keyboard and chair.Actually, the issues aren;t of the PEBKAC variety. Ever since Apple started with patch updates through Software Update I've had issues occur that were fixed by applying the full point update (not the combo update). Pretty much every issue that has been fixed by installing the combo update (that I know of) has been where the system in question had one ofr more point patch updates installed by software update instead of the full point update.
Ever since that became a common occurance, I only install the full point updates and haven't had any of the funky issues that people seem to have that are apparently caused by the smaller patch updates.
I think Apple could save some money by not bothering with the patch updates so they have less software to test and have less customer issues. In theory having the three types of updates (patch, point and combo) gives them too many combinations to test. Since apparently depending on which updates were patch and which were point changes the outcome of how the system works.

Guys - what do you think the expected turnout is for the iPhone 4 launch? I showed up for both the 3G and 3GS and was underwhelmed by the lack of line (that's a good thing!) but with all the attention the iPhone 4 is getting, you'd think there is going to be a lot of attention. I am planning on showing up around 4 or 5 am with plenty of coffee, wifi hotspot (to share :D) and some entertainment. Anyone else with me?

http://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif (http://www.macrumors.com/iphone/2010/01/04/apple-takes-control-of-iphone-related-trademark-in-china/)
Macworld reports (http://www.macworld.com/article/145386/2010/01/iphone_trademark.html) that Apple has taken control of a trademark for the term "i-phone" in China after reaching an agreement with the previous holder to resolve a conflict that could have prevented Apple from releasing the iPhone there under its global brand name.Hanwang Technology, a Chinese maker of e-readers and other devices, applied for the i-phone trademark for mobile phones in China in when it also launched a handset by that name that it no longer sells. But the record for that trademark, which several months ago showed Hanwang as the applicant, now lists Apple's name instead, and it displays a new note saying the trademark was transferred.Chinese intellectual property lawyers had previously indicated that Apple would have difficulty launching the iPhone in China under its usual name due to its similarity to that of Hanwang's device and trademark.
Apple launched (http://www.macrumors.com/2009/10/30/iphone-launches-today-in-china/) the iPhone in China in late October with partner carrier China Unicom, which has reportedly exceeded 300,000 units sold (http://www.macrumors.com/iphone/2009/12/29/china-unicom-passes-300000-iphones-sold/) despite a slow launch weekend (http://www.macrumors.com/2009/11/03/china-unicom-reports-only-5000-new-iphone-users-since-launch/).

It may/may not depending how old the machine is. But I have no problem like yours. My advise is to just file a bug report.
may I ask where do I file one ?
thanks again for the info

That's a song by the Beatles.
Could I play it through bookshelf speakers, connected to a receiver, connected to the Mac via usb 2.0 with the above device?

I believe iOS zoom in / out when possible, to fit the content. Apple has a patent on it.
You should actually make a real page and content, then test.

With all the suggested changes to the iPad most of which are pretty much confirmed (high res screen, better cpu/gpu, dual camera etc) with this ability too it'd definately be something i'd buy.
The iPad is becoming what it should have been from the get go.

I am thinking of ordering the lacie slim dvd burner
http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?pid=10186
I know it isn't as fast as a desktop model, but I want to be able to take it with me, and I know my next mac will have a superdrive, so I wouldnt need an external burner. Right now I am using the superdrive on my G4 powermac. I am curious as to how much slower or faster the lacie slim is?
Advice is appreciated!

Hey everyone,
I went to open a pdf in Preview when a blue screen with the spinning load indicator appeared. It stayed on this screen for about 10 minutes then I manually shut down with the power button. When I went to restart the flashing folder with a question mark awaited. I attempted to select the startup disk with the option key but only got the mouse cursor. Inserted the Snow leopard disk and attempted to select the startup disk that way but my hard drive would not show up. I can still hear my disk spinning but I am assuming it has failed. Before I go out and buy a new disk tomorrow I am going to attempt to load it as a target disk from a Imac at my university but I want to make sure that it is the hard drive and not some other issue. Any other thoughts?
