How on Earth is a patent like that supposed to promote innovation?

Apple will surely manage this, but what about the independent developer with no huge pile of cash to throw at some lawyers? THAT is the problem here.. :(
Are there any cases of giant companies suing indies for patent infringement? I realise it often happens the other way around, but I can't recall a case where some poor indie is muscled out of business via a patent. It just doesn't seem worth it.

I think the keynote was a bust. Waaaaaaaaayyyy to much time spent on the frickin' iPhone, and I'm the perfect demographic for it. My iPod 4Gen just died, and my Samsung Cingular cell is on the fritz, but there is no way in hell I'm paying $600 for a nano/phone combo. 8gig is not enough space, especially when you start putting any video content on there. Thanks Steve, I'll pass...:confused:

I was wondering whether these issues only apply to people who JB their phones? Or perhaps there is some particular app that they all have installed doesn't agree with 4.3.1.

Do you have any proof that FT actually does sell email addresses?
Just because businesses wants your email doesn't equate to they'll sell your details...
Than why else do they want them? FT references their "business model" needing this "relationship". As other have said, I want their content NOT a relationship.

Hi all,
Just added a 4.8 GHz i7-2600k folding -bigadv (~ 49000 ppd) to my MacRumors contribution.
This is being helped by:
3.8 GHz i7-860 folding -smp 7 -bigadv ~ 22000 ppd
2.8 GHz i7-860 folding -smp 6 ~ 8000 ppd
3* GTX 460 ~ 32000 ppd combined
1* GTX 430 ~ 4000 ppd
All running in wine under Ubuntu 10.04
Hopefully I can maintain a reasonably stable 100k ppd, at least until the weather gets warmer when the graphics cards will have to stop.

I did something similar once. Basically a combination of turning off then on the external drive, while connected and/or restarting my computer fixed this.
Somewhere some deamon still thinks the drive is connected, it's just a matter of getting it to reset.

I have the Cuisinart Ice Cream maker and it's ok. The kitchenaid will be much better, just turn your freezer temp as low as it will go and leave the churn in there for about a day, I usually do for at least 24 hours. The Cuisinart only works on one speed so when the mixture starts to really firm up you can't whip it harder to incorporate air. Besides, why have something that only does one thing? ;) A kitchenaid will last literally forever, you'll have to put it in your will.

Interesting that you had problems with your cds. Usually I never encountered such a thing. I take care of them but not spend too much time worrying about it. Lots of my work are backed up on cd's and dvds as early as the 90's.
I agreed that having a Hard Drive backup is a good thing. I am interested in the high capacity of the BR and HD-DVD discs, but I refuse to pay $50 for a disc. I rather buy at Fry's on promotion a 300GB hard drive for $89. Much better deal.
Until then I think Hard drives are the way to go to archive huge files. It will be interesting when these new dvd discs cost around $5 for 50GB, then I will jump on it.

Firstly, as well as school i've worked 20 hours a week for nearly a year at around 6.50 an hour. I'll leave you to work out how much i've got. So no, it's not really ridiculous.
Secondly, my parents are happy to pay insurance. I find that fair to be honest.

2) Even if they did, there are multiple geographic/mapping data providers

There's nothing stupid about this. Its a huge privacy violation to have your locations constantly tracked without your consent, even if the data is not used directly by Apple.
For the 100000th time, it doesn't track your location.
Steve just does not look well in that photo - I even had to look closely to see if he'd been Photoshopped in or not as the colour of his skin is so different to the others'...

Except iOS is not a exclusively a smartphone OS. Again, if you are a developer, the metric that matters is how many devices are using the particular platform.

I originally bought an mbox mini and upgraded to Pro Tools 7.4.2.
In my account on digidesign (Avid Audio)'s website I can download various installer packages and the authorisation codes. However it only goes up to Tiger, and Leopard.
I was wondering , if I upgrade to Snow Leopard. . .does the 7.4.2 version of Pro Tools LE for Leopard run on SL?

People who pirate movies wouldn't have bought the movie in the first place. Adding usage restrictions only hurts the customers who bought the movie. If the studios are worried people will transfer movies to their friend's iPods, then they probably have their heads in the sand regarding the swapping of DVDs.
Still, the concept of limiting consumers' rights is the issue at hand.
