Don't have my second monitor hooked up right now, otherwise my contacts list would be over there.

I'm just wondering when they're going to unveil it! If I'm not mistaken, March/April is usually the announcement period, with a launch in June-July.
They haven't announced anything yet, which either means that they're working on something HUGE, or it's behind schedule
I've been thinking about that: remember when there were rumors of OS X delays because the Mac team was pulled onto the iOS team in order to get 3.0 out? I'm wondering if the opposite is happening now - the iOS team has been pulled onto the Lion team in order to get Lion ready for a summer launch. This could be the reason we're not hearing much about iOS 5.

Is this well-veiled sarcasm? If not, you guys are ridiculous.
1) Google does not own the mapping database they use
2) Even if they did, there are multiple geographic/mapping data providers
3) None of them obtained their data by having employees drive around in vehicles... That's an absurd suggestion
Google absolutely owns their own map data. Only in the U.S. for now though.
http://searchengineland.com/no-more-teleatlas-google-goes-it-alone-for-maps-data-27584
The kicker? They obtained that data (or the vast majority of it) with street view cars. Nobody realized street view served a dual purpose: Pictures, but perhaps more importantly, the mapping data.

I think Apple should sell the iPhone unlock, if they really plan on selling an iPhone. Try to innovate the cell phone market, if you will. Every gadget wearer knows about unlocking phones or buys unlocked phones and hops around services. It's a niche thing, but if Apple was to make some in-roads with this, I think Apple can dodge all the phone crippling, while still selling this phone directly to the masses. The partnerships with services can come later.

Apple should just roll their own.
They have the power, the talent, the size, and certainly the scale, to go their own way with an excellent chance of success.
The more things they do in-house, the better. It'll only enhance the Apple ecosystem and grow it.
Is this always the best approach? Unless Apple intends to invent something beyond the wheel, why just invent the wheel all over again? The duplication of effort doesnt sound very cost effective. And for good or ill, we do operate in a Neo-Liberal economy where its most cost effective to source services and products from others. All the same I can understand the Google thing, but I dont think the articles distance itself from Google language is the best choice of words. Reduce dependency on Google would be more accurate. Anyway, I would have to think that Apples plan is to move beyond the wheel. I wonder what that will look like?

I got some of the stuff in these pictures.
My mum came over to visit me in Finland and she bought me the corner light (it cycles through colours) She also bought me the cushions on the sofa.
I got the curtains from Ikea yesterday along with the plant, plus I also got the LED dioders behind the monitors.
All in all a nice lot of stuff to make my living room more of a warm place to be.
I now just have to get my artwork on the wall, next week I will get some frames in the sales.

Yeah except Photoshop is for people like me so it is relevant.
Missed half the post, eh?
So buy a capacitive stylus already ... Insofar as a few people do need a stylus for limited applications, third parties make them. Buy one if you need it

That said, it is unpleasant by its very nature. If you don't think that, I'd suggest watching some documentaries on prison life.
I do watch prison shows, and it's pretty much what i expect it should be. What i see here is people advocating for prisoners to have more freedoms, which i disagree with. The way prisons are now in the US is exactly how they should be. It IS supposed to be a punishment.

The great thing about doing something good, is that it is OK to do it for any reason that makes you happy (even credit on a MacRumors thread) because at the end of the day it benefits people.
If I was dying, I wouldn't care if someone gave me blood because their MacRumor buddies would like them more. They saved my life. Why is it so bad they did it for one reason or another?
If people would do more good things because of threads on MacRumors, how cool would that be?
Well I suppose you have a point there. If more people are giving blood because of the MacRumors blood drive, that's a good thing which I think I already said a few comments back. ;)
My comment was addressed more to the people who get upset because they're classified high-risk. I just question the motivation sometimes. But having said that, it may be that the US system is indeed prejudiced, and if so then perhaps they have a point.
Regarding your first, rather general statement about 'doing something good for any reason that makes you happy', are you sure? What about a teacher who only does it for the money and doesn't really care about the children? A politician who only does what he thinks will win him the next election? A church minister who only visits his wealthier parishioners? A date who pays for an expensive meal and lavishes you with compliments only because he wants sex at the end? I would argue that people who only do things for selfish ends tend to end up causing more harm than good in the end. Anyway, that's probably a debate better left for PRSI. ;)

w/ TRIM support I hope
This isn't solid state storage, so TRIM is not even in the picture.
The last quote I got for a 300GB SSD module for our SAN was $17,500 (after a 50% "discount" from list), about six months ago. So if we assume that the price has gone down a bit since then and Apple gets crazy volume discounts, let's assume they'd pay around $10k. Times 40,000 units, we'd be talking $400M just for the drives themselves, not counting the hot spares, enclosures, controllers, switches, licensing, and all the other ancillary stuff involved. We'd be somewhere between a half and three quarters of a billion dollars.
