25-30 years ago those were cool, even considered cutting edge, but compared with what is on the app store now, the Atari games suck. I'll pass. Not even worth 99 cents.

It's amazing that they can still make money selling Centipede and its peers.

Is there a Steve Jobs homage in Breakout?
They should hide an Easter egg in Breakout so that a System 7.5 SimpleText window pops up! :D See Breakout, The Easter Egg (http://www.thisoldmac.ca/wordpress/?p=75).

Legally, if you make any kind of contract, you have to identify yourself.

    No you don't.

Because the Financial Times wants it that way. The company offers its content to subscribers under certain conditions, and it is free do so. If the company should not be allowed to do that for the sake of consumer protection, then there should be laws to prohibit such practice. If you personally do not agree with the conditions of the subscription, then you are always free to decide not to subscribe. If it turns out that their decision keeps customers from subscribing, then they might choose to reconsider.

True. They can refuse to sell their news to anyone who wants to be anonymous. They can also refuse to sell their news to anyone who refuses to give them blood, name their firstborn Nancy, or any other legal condition they wish to impose.

That doesn't mean Apple is wrong for trying to prevent the use of their platform to facilitate the operation of such objectionable conditions precedent, and it doesn't mean that the FT business model, operating this way, is sustainable in the long term.

We get a full year of support on hardware and software, and have Applecare for beyond year 1. So limited OS support is FUD.

I don't think it is FUD. For example, Microsoft's last support for WinXP Pro ends in April of 2014 that is over 12 years of support from the vendor.

    Bertrand Serlet (Apple)
Apple today announced (http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2011/03/23serlet.html) that Bertrand Serlet, senior vice president of Mac Software Engineering, will be departing the company in order to "focus less on products and more on science", although his specific destination remains unknown. Serlet joined Steve Jobs at NeXT in 1989, and transitioned to Apple in 1997 when NeXT was acquired and Jobs brought back to lead Apple.

Craig Federighi demoing Mac OS X Lion (Reuters)
Serlet will be replaced by Craig Federighi, currently Apple's vice president of Mac Software Engineering and who has led Mac OS X engineering for the past two years. Federighi is another former NeXT and Apple employee who spent ten years at Ariba before returning to Apple in 2009. Serlet notes that the transition should be seamless given Federighi's role in leading the current Mac OS X team.Serlet has occasionally appeared at Apple keynote and media events over the years to introduce Mac OS X-related features, and thus well known to longtime Apple followers. Federighi made his first public presentation since his return to Apple at last October's "Back to the Mac" event (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/10/20/live-coverage-of-apples-back-to-the-mac-media-event/), taking the stage to show off some of the features of Apple's forthcoming Mac OS X Lion.

You are obviously missing the point. Apple's new subscription model is preventing choice from coming to it's customers. How is that not a bad thing?

How many people here want to choose to get tons of junk mail delivered to their house?

Raise your hand if you'd take that option.

Serious quesion. If most posters here raise their hands then I'll shut up and say you were right.

Not at all. FT and the like can still do their own system but not folks can choose to use the in app option and use an established pay system instead of putting their info and credit card on yet another site. Plus you can skip credit cards all together by using iTunes gift cards, which you can buy pretty much everywhere these days

Some of the customer reviews on the iTunes download page for this app are saying that it's native resolution is for iPhone, not the iPad. If true, #soLame

yawn. how many more stories about this stupid "location tracking".

Until people like this guy actually get the point that Apple isn't tracking anyone.

Why does it take a media storm for Apple to open up on an issue ? It would be so much better if they more forthcoming and frank befoe an issue snowballs.

And when FCS4 comes out it will be a year ahead of CS5. What's your point?
I think his point was that if the next version of FCP is only playing 'catch up' to CS5 and MC5 it will quickly be eclipsed by the next iterations of those programs (especially if FCP stays on a two year product cycle). FCP needs to leap frog CS5 and MC5 to remain competitive.

We've been using Mac Pros as servers for years now... it has more function than the Xserve but is just not rack mountable. No big deal. And who used Shake that its loss makes an impact? Apple could cut Motion and I don't think many would care.
Just because it's not a big deal for you doesn't mean it's not a big deal for others. For example, our production technology guys are finally happy to be phasing out an old 30TB SAN that's taking up 3-4 times the space of the new 60TB SAN. Less space, less power, less cooling, less money to build and maintain for a bigger, better SAN. I can only imagine what they'd do if someone came in and said "Okay, we are replacing all your 1RU servers with Mac Pros".

As far as Shake goes, I'd say all the people doing higher end VFX work felt multiple stings from Apple. First was killing the Windows version. Second was keeping the price high for the Linux version while severely discounting the Mac version. Third was ceasing development of it in 2006 even though it was arguably best in class software. It's a testament to the guys at Nothing Real (the creators of Shake) that it was still viable for so many years after Apple killed it (copies of Shake on eBay still go for, or near, full retail price). AFAIK Nuke has come in to fill the void left by Shake.

Against what I originally said I shelled out another $3 and bought the update. Was it worth the $3? no not really. Lost the themes. As others have said the UI is over designed and not completely functional. I have noticed some missing tweets, this is NOT acceptable.

I hate his BS excuse for not having themes. "We didnt remove them, we just didnt add them. Its a whole new app".

If he's calling it "Tweetie 2", its not exactly a "whole new app". Its supposed to be Tweetie 1 with more features, and a UI refresh if thats what he wants to do. Its not supposed be be less functional than the app that came before it.
