Can anyone confirm that the update does not make the Mac Pro noisier?
In the past Apple has repeatedly upgraded fan speeds by these updates a couple of months AFTER all reviews had been written. I had once bought my Powerbook G4 (besides other aspects) because it was very quite. A few SMC updates later the fan was running continuously and as such probably lowering average temperatur and service return rate for Apple.

Hah, Adobe being committed to x86 Macs. If they meant it we would have had a universal binary update to Creative Suite 2 a lonnng time ago. :rolleyes:

I think what we are all seeing is that the differentiating factor between Apple and "the others" is no longer software. Windows 7 is now good enough that it can easily compete with (and in many areas, exceed) the software offering on any Mac.
It's now down to hardware manufacturers to do the work to bring their machines up to a standard to match the OS. From what I've seen Dell have been making significant improvements in recent months and years and Lenovo still exudes quality.
Three or four years ago I wouldn't have considered anything that wasn't made by Apple. But now I'd definitely look at a Windows machine first when replacing my desktop and I'd give some Windows laptops a lot of consideration as well.

Actually, it does. Everything that you know about computers (or believe you know) as just being natural and everyday, most people don't know those things. Did you know immediately when 10.6.7 was released? Most normal people don't know that. Software Update eventually finds it and they install it.

As for what I meant- I am trying to illustrate how silly and unrealistic and inherently flawed "anti-discrimination" laws are. Lets say I do not hire a guy because he is black. it is strange that they added a fourth band (VIII - 900 frequency) which is for more of europe, asia and also vodaNZ but doesn't open up anything in the US... even stranger is that i was just in NZ and my 3G[S] (which doesn't support VIII / 900 apparently) was on the vodaNZ 3G network the whole time. anyone with knowledge of this whole UMTS / HSDPA band and frequency thing, please tell me how this worked then?

It must be nice having so much money that you can base your car purchase on a political statement ... though I understand you folks are working with the best intentions.
But an automobile and its upkeep are too expensive to justify "buying American" alone. If the product isn't up to par then you're not only hurting yourself financially, you're sending the wrong message to the manufacturer's who'll think they don't have to produce quality cars.
Now I'm not saying that good American-built cars don't exist. I haven't shopped for one in over ten years. I don't know. I do know that it's one product where it's wise to set aside socio-political motivations and simply buy the best car on the market.

Thanks for the great ideas ... I like the idea of using Chronosync to sync both machines on the same network ... might give that a shot. Currently using Dropbox as a usb drive replacement.

Hong Kong, Japan & a few other countries have been using technology like this for a while. Hopefully it'll start being mainstream in Western countries soon.
Hong Kong uses a SMART type card for everything, transport, vending machines, etc etc.
Japan uses their mobile phones, AFAIK :P
Yeah, it is so wide spread in Japan that you can use it at little corner shops these days. Great technology.

Huh! Could be interesting so long as only Apple's devices are the hosts and not other devices like Android etc. That would follow the model they are using with AirPlay for audio, so it might make sense.
If that happens though and it is baked into TVs then it almost negates the reason to get an Apple TV box. Maybe this is when Apple would introduce a full on TV set with everything integrated! :D

Here is the thing about Verizon iPad 2's versus AT&T iPad 2's. The AT&T version is not restricted to AT&T and can be bought by a visitor for use in another country on a local carrier whereas the Verizon will only work on Verizon.

Well I've not yet appeared in the news. Note that when I talk about the rebellious crowd, I'm referring to more than just you and the peopl in this thread. There has been a total overreaction to it in the news and by 'celebrities' over the country. In any case, that's not irony.
Some time in the future when past christmas number ones are played I'll get a little smile when I hear 2009's.

I haven't been able to find a SINGLE store that has the 16GB model. I've searched everywhere throughout the city and east bay. Anyways, all I've called have said the iPads are $299/$399/$499 with no contract.

Put my pre-order in at Game last night and traded in my Elite & 4 games I'll never be playing again. Plus a Dual Shock 3 controller I was going to replace with the Power A xbox-esque PS3 controller. I was very surprised to see the UK price is �199... which potentially makes it the cheapest price worldwide?
