Well, it can survive a hard fall of about 4 feet, I know that for sure. I own a G3 iBook without wireless (I'm broke) so I always have a 100 foot ethernet cord trailing behind me. Somehow, as I was walking from one room to another, I got tangled up in it, did a funny little twirly-dance, practically threw the iBook out of my way (if I would have landed on it there would surely be no chance of survival) and fell to the ground face first (ouch). The iBook landed hard on its left side. It was powered on, as a matter of fact I was browsing this forum. The sound it made on contact was horrible to say the least. But I'll be damned...so far not a thing wrong with it! When I say it took a hard hit I mean it REALLY took a hard hit. When I picked it up off the floor I wasn't breathing...it felt like my heart had stopped. The screen was black, all was quiet...for about 3 seconds. All of a sudden the screen lit up and it was right where I left it. I just had to reconnect to the internet and I was rolling again. Just wanted to share that with everyone, for I am blown away that the thing isn't dead. If a moose like me can't kill this iBook it is one hardy machine;)
Wow, that had to be one heck of a scary moment. Glad to hear that everything appears to be fine with your iBook! :)
If anything like that happened to my iBook...

4 pin = 400 FW no power - used on DV video cameras
6 pin = 400 FW with power - HD's, scanners, etc
9 pin = 800 FW with power
The great thing about firewire... no processor power is used, unlike USB that uses the processor.

Hi all,
Can anyone give me your personal thoughts on the 20" iMac?
Hi,
the iMac 20" is a powerful machine, with a nice design. Comfortable RAM (1Gb or above) is a must. My only comment: it can be kinda noisy because of the fans (and not only the faulty 1st revision), which is some time annoying because it's in front of you, on the desk (instead of under the table, obviously).

Hi, thanks for the responses.about the canon lenses: I use Nikon so my lenses are all black. In terms of throwing the lenses around, well I do go on travel and I do go out in the woods etc. so yes my lenses do see action and they do get small hits here and there. My old sigma 70-200 had some scratches because it fell on the ground. So yes I have seen damage to the lenses in that respect.
In terms of the lens coats, they look like they fit well but I have seen professional photographers using self adhesive tape as a layer of protection. So no glue residue left as you take it off but still that looks even worse than the lens coat :)
I'll have to re-think what I will do....

A resurrection of GG Allin.
Darn! Beat me to it...
How's about the Impotent Sea Snakes? That's about as close to GG as you can get without raising him from the dead.

Well... it WILL set a precedent and you will see apple going after jailbreakers...
The Library of Congress already rule jb is legal. Try again.
And they have MORE muscle than SONY.
Whatever 'muscle' is? All you need to sue someone is money and both Apple and Sony have more than enough.

Hey guys I'm new to this jailbreaking thing and had question and I hope one of you iPhone wizards can help me out. I was wondering if I am running on 3.1.3 firmware right now(my iPhone is currently jailbroken) if I were to update my firmware would I lose the jailbreak?? Would it unjailbreak my phone with a firmware update? I really don't want to try and re jailbreak it, will I have to or would the iPhone still remain jailbroken even if I update?? Help would be much appreciated guys!! Thank you in advance

Oh my god I was literally JUST about to post a thread on the no-quit-chrome problem when I saw this thread... hope you don't mind me hijacking, but I'll just state a couple of things that happened:
~woudn't quit, so I loaded force quit from the apple logo in the corner, which wouldn't even do it on the first try, but it quit on the second force quit
~reinstalling seems to solve the problem for the first couple openings of the app but then the problem arises again
~running the new beta, but I doubt that has anything to do with it cuz I saw THIS testimony, so....
ANyway, I might just downgrade back cuz Chrome is my main browse, but maybe I'd just switch to safari... it DOES have some improvements in 10.7 :D
I had that same problem yesterday. I had to force quit and then after restarting I never had the problem again (Mostly because I use Safari 5.1 much more often.) :D

The MBP arrived today - it's condition is immaculate, even the box is perfect. I found exactly one hair in the keyboard - that's the only sign it was used, ever. This seller has been very professional and has provided great communication throughout our transaction. I would definitely buy from him again.

Thanks for the info, guys. I appreciate it.
Well I am considering the new MBPs too. Getting a PB would only be for curiosity, posterity, interest etc.

i have four LaCie d2 form factor drives in a LaCie desk rack. I've used d2's for years, no problems whatsoever. They are quiet and reliable, and, if you're getting more than one eventually, the rack is very nice.

My questions are... Could I still use the G5 as some kind of server for the rest of the macs in the house, what would I need to install and what benefits would I get from doing this?
Sorry it's such a broad question, but I think it'd be a shame to stop using the G5 as I still feel it's a great machine.
It all depends on what kind of service(s) you want the server to provide.

It's not the number of Megapixels, but the sensor size. Jamming that many MPs into a tiny sensor will not give you a good camera
True.
An 8MP cam with with a better lens will destroy it.
Cameraphones will always be a bit gimped purely because of their size and multifunction nature.
I had the 12MP SE Satio for a couple of months and it was good for a phone but my old 7MP compact camera with a better lens blew it away.

That's sweet! How secure are those latches? I'd be worried about it coming open and dumping the MBP, which would make me cry.
I'm also curious with what you've lined the inside to protect the MBP.

I think Steve is going to be there giving free macbookair's away for free as no one is buying them
Um, not to be a jerk... but... it no one is buying them then why do they currently hold the #4 best selling notebook position at Amazon... and they aren't even available yet????

very tempting... is this the more expensive monitor that has the adjustable stand and better panel?
Yeah, this display is the newer and latest model (old was 2405wfp) and features adjustable stand, upgraded panel, usb hub and CF and other memory slots on the side built in.
