i am wondering, what is so good about lossless, is it better than 192kbs MP3? is it smaller, i have 1734 songs, 8.11GB of music now, will lossless compress this and will i lose quality?

I'm not there now but I heard that there are only about 10 people there. I may head over around 4 in the morning but I don't know if that's too late or not.

My 15" Powerbook G4 (1.67GHz Superdrive) 80 GB hard drive is getting a little cramped so I'm looking for a bigger drive to replace it with.
Obviously the new drive needs to be just as quiet and fast (or better).
The current drive is reported as Seagate ST9808211A (http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/disc/manuals/ata/100378844b.pdf) by System Profiler and is apparently rated with a max. transfer speed of 100 MB/sec, rotation speed of 5400 RPM and a noise level of 2.4-3.1 Bels (24-31 Db). It's worked without any issues since 2005.
There doesn't seem to be much to choose from when it comes to 2.5" drives these days, so I'm basically left to choose between the WD1600BEVE (160 GB, WD2500BEVE (250 GB) and WD3200BEVE (320 GB) "Scorpio Blue" models from Western Digital (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=140). Are these any good or should I search a little harder and hopefully find something by Seagate again?
The reason I'm a little hesitant with Western Digital is that I have a couple of WD10EARS (1 TB) and WD20EARS (2TB) "Green power" drives which has this annoying feature that parks the drive head every 8 seconds or so, causing a lot of waiting and unnecessary tear and wear. They don't exactly advertise this fact (and it can't be disabled, at least not from Mac computers even though there's a DOS tool that used to work with the first batches of these drives when connected to a PC), so I'm worried that all current Western Digital drives might have these "features" (faults).
Are the 2.5" models from Western Digital a safe bet in comparison to my current drive?

In the vast majority of tasks altivec is not going to make up for 500mhz. Though, make note of the fact that the G3 had a very week FPU, and at 1ghz would properly perform like a 500mhz G4 for media tasks. But I doubt much slower. So the G3 is really a better deal, in some things it will be sigificantly faster because the G3 did have a strong ALU.

Gee I wonder how many would be sold if they weren't purposely crippling the supply lines to retailers and holding back finished consoles?

Unfortunately, this has led to a lot of catalog mining. Previous-gen PS2 and Xbox games like Ubisofts "Blazing Angels" and "Prince of Persia" were gussied up with Wii Remote controls and then shoved out the door to capitalize on the systems momentum.
This is my major fear about the Wii. But...
After Ubisoft, Electronic Arts is the next major third-party developer to redirect resources to the Wii. Not only has the gaming giant set up Wii-dedicated development teams, but within the last month, EA has released no fewer than three Wii titles: "SSX Blur," "The Godfather: Blackhand Edition," and "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07."
...this brings a little promise, even if it is EA and EA is the devil. :p

Kingston SSDNow V+100 SVP100S2B/96GR 2.5" 96GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?SID=u1181863t2861741f9fp0dd0c0s701&AID=10440897&PID=1225267&Item=N82E16820139412&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-cables-_-na-_-na)
Finally ready to jump in on an SSD, and this particular model is $120 at newegg AR. I did some research, and it got high marks for low power consumption, but scored behind in other areas. It doesn't have any reviews on newegg, but they seem positive. Maintaining battery life is important to me, so that part seems good.
Does anyone have this particular drive, and if so, how has it worked out for you? Would you recommend it? Seems like a good deal getting 96GB for $120. FYI this will be my boot drive as part of an OptiBay setup.
Thanks!

I have a blue yetti with a pop filter and recording about 5 inches away from the mic give or take. I have it set to cardioid and it's a usb mic so it's going straight into audacity. I am trying to get good vocals here but when I compare it to lil wayne acapellas his sound soooooo much better than mine. I mean I expect it to sound somewhat better but this mic is supposed to be really good. I am recording in a closet to. Maybe that affects the sound? I don't know what I'm doing wrong or what it is really supposed to even sound like. Here is a link to a sample recording:

Thanks so much for your help.

Sometimes the unofficial jailbreak bundles for some iDevices don't exist. You'll most likely have to wait until the official jailbreak is released sometime in the coming weeks.

I have two of them. Make an offer, good condition... a year or so old on the one, maybe, 6 mo on the other one.
Lemme know. I'll be in Portland in a day, Seattle in a week. More than welcome to meet up anywhere in between tomorrow or so.
Not my picture, but they look like this:

They come in apple boxes if that matters. woot

Didn't realise my post was so confusing.
In answer:
1) The track to which the link takes you.
2) Exactly - I've heard it somewhere else as, quite possibly, a different version (I knew it so well I was humming along to it) so assume it's on a film/advert/musical or something and was wondering if anyone else knew where I may have heard it.

I was curious if any of you know if there is any external speaker attachment that would connect through the headphone port and provide sound? I have an iPod Nano 6g and thought it would be cool to listen to music while reading. My idea of a speaker would be similar to Switcheasy's Thumbtack, but a speaker rather than microphone. Let me know as I havbe searches all over the place!

My 867 mhz G4 PB takes 15 hours to crunch a unit....I thought that was decent, but if your 450mhz G4's are crunching a unit at 12-14 hrs that would make my PB really slow. huh. And yes, I have it at maximum processor.
Those 2 G4/450's run SETI in blank screen mode and do nothing else that is why they can complete units faster.

Sure,
About 3 weeks ago, her battery life went from about 1hr and 45 min to a max of 20 minutes. Now, I have had batteries doe on me before, but this was an overnight thing, not gradual at all. I want to try and reset the PMU to see if I can get more battery life out of it, but the PMU does not seem to reset.
Regards,
Gus

Yeah, but then they'd get stuck in the speaker and microphone holes. :p

Who seriously sits down and takes the time to think this sort of thing up, then write up an article? This could be one of the most ridiculous topics I've ever heard of.

Did you originally make the .dmg with Disk Copy or Toast? Apparently sometimes you need to use Disk Copy and set the image type to read only (not CD master) for them to work properly. Then you should just be able to mount in Disk Copy.
