Personally Id go to 7.6 as its basically Mac OS 8.0 without the stuff that made 8.0 slow - on 68K Machines either 7.6 or 7.1 are going to be the best systems (7.5.5 is actually pretty horrid, 7.6 is much better).
This is why I skipped 8 all together. It did not seem any different than 7.6.1. The only reason I bothered with 9 was that one of my upgrades for a Performa 6400 required 8 or later (I forget if it was the G3 upgrade or video card). Then my G4 shipped with 9. I was also disappointed that Mac OS 8 was not Copeland which I had been reading about in the Mac publications and anticipating for a long time.
Unless you don't want another machine cluttering things up I would do as dmr727 suggested and get a PPC to run 8 and push the 575 back to 7.1.

Right, I have been wondering of getting lenscoats for my lenses (at least the ones that I can get them for), not for camouflage but for actual protection. I have seen them in action and sometime the lenses just take a hit or two and that neoprene neatly takes the hit. They make them in black which is what suits me best. BUT the question is does anyone else use them? Are there alternatives since they are pretty pricey and from the looks not quite 100% fitting.
Someone also suggested camo form tape which also absorbs the hits, albeit less so, but is a helluva lot cheaper.

I am planning on getting a 2011 15" MacBook Pro and have experience with Macs and Boot Camp. However, I am not 100% sure on this question and was hoping y'all could help.
I am going to have a 128GB SSD in the main HD slot. I will also have a 500GB 5400 RPM hard drive in the opti-bay. I am planning on partitioning the SSD to give OS X 64GB and Windows 7 64GB. My question is...if I install just the Windows OS on the SSD, will I be able to install the Windows programs to the hard drive in the opti-bay slot? I will also use the opti-bay drive to hold music, pictures, videos, etc. for both OS X and Windows.

I'm a happy man this year. I have always wanted to watch the keynote without knowing anything about what has been released but could never resist (last year I was away from any sort of computer and then I open the newspaper and boom....the iPhone. I wasn't expecting anything because I live in Australia) but this year.....it will be 4 am when Steve takes the stage. So I'll happily wake up at around 9 am (I'm on holidays) and just watch the keynote with a glass of OJ. IT'LL BE AWESOME!!!!!

Thanks for the reply. Right now i've got the plastic clips and crappy thermal paste from best buy in the mac mini. It gets the job done, but I'm thinking about redoing the thermal paste with better stuff and adding nylon screws, that should help keep temps down... and add a little life to the already ancient mac mini.
With the plastic clips, the springs were required to maintain pressure between the heatsink and the CPU. You don't need the springs if you're using screws and nuts. I used nylon screws and nylon lock nuts. I see temps a few degrees lower than yours while encoding. Remember not to use too much thermal paste.

OK, someone recognized the abbreviations and proved that the graph is accurate (provided the context I noted was absent). One could also come up with another arbitrary explanation for the graph involving a parabolic piece-wise function given the fact that you can't infer specific curvature characteristics from a hand-drawn graph. It doesn't magically invalidate my point. The point was to show that there could be a logical explanation for the graph and the submission was stupid. That point was made.
For instance, lacking a scale, let's suppose that graph passes through (0,0), (1,1) and (2,0). This results in an equation of y = -x^2 +2x. However, we notice that to the right of 1, we should have a decreasing dependent variable. However, they share a common point, 1. When x = 1, n = 1 (using the alphabetic rather than the Greek for simplicity's sake). Also, when x = 2, n should be 0, to flip about the point of 1. When x = 0, n should be 2 (again, flipping about 1). This results in n = -x + 2. Solve for x and substitute into above parabolic equation, and you have a graph that both roughly matches what is shown and satisfies those inequalities for n. Thanks for the advice. I did open my 60gb and it feels great to be able to fit everything on it again and backup my full-size photos. I didn't necessarily want a video-iPod but I thought they may just update battery life, functions, design, etc. Here's to at least a few months of no iPod updates since I just bought a new one :)

I have a Dell laptop now with a 30gb drive and have barely 5gb filled. I don't think having a 40gb in my iBook will be a big problem.
An external drive would be nice because I would like to share files between computers.

and my G5 gets a bit of a rest instead of folding 24/7. It uses a lot of power and am trying to cut down my electric bill.
If i told you then it would not be a secret. I lost another work unit to the beta client.....however i still am getting decent daily output. I will tell you when i am in the top 100......o and by the way i am not folding under trainguy77.....You may already know what i am folding under but if you don't.....I will tell you when i am about to overtake you. :D

Thing is, SandyBridge comes with slightly worse graphics. Would worse graphics affect music-creating software? I heard Garageband is GPU-intensive. Not so sure about Logic Pro.
Neither is what I would call GPU-intensive. As a matter of fact GarageBand '11 runs perfectly happilly on my iMac 1.83 Core Duo with a ATI X1600, and my MacBook White with a Intel X3100 - neither of which is remotely powerful compared to the GPU in my 11" Air. The situation is the same with Logic Pro, however the big downside with an Air is the lack of FireWire. If it fits in your workflow then a MBA w 4/8GB RAM should handle GarageBand/Logic Express/Logic Pro just fine (Heck my low-end 11"/1.4/2GB MBA handles Final Cut Pro for basic editing and even Motion 4 at a pinch, so Graphics definitely shouldn't be an issue).

Apple ought just get real and start using Intel/AMD and get their new cases redesigned by Alienware. OH and get some decent games...
