i have no particular affinity for either democrats or republicans (and since i cannot vote - dont care much either) - but not everything in this list is bad......
1. almost no other country has an unqualified birth-right on citizenship........so, if americans at some point want this changed - this is well within their rights.......however, constitution amendment process is so complex in this country ( i believe all states have to ratify or something like that) - it is near impossible.
2. balanced budget is not a bad idea - deficit financing ad infinitum does not make much sense
3. most of us dont like tax hikes - so if GOP folks agree with that view - whats wrong with that?
4. Estate Tax is just the Govt's way of destroying individual wealth even after death - repealing it is actually a fairly good idea.
the unfortunate reality is that both parties have some good ideas and some nutty ideas and the pity is we cannot choose what we like best from each - the set of beliefs is a like a package deal - you get the good with the bad.........

Since you are from Russia it may be wiser to stick with EB3. I am assuming that the priority date for EB3 will be very close to current when you are ready to file for 485. EB2 of course is always current.
Filing in EB2 is riskier, since you and employer will have to prove to USCIS that 1. the employer has a requirement for a person with EB2 qualifications and 2. you have those qualifications.
If you were from heavily retrogressed countries such as India and China, then taking a risk and filing in EB2 is worth it. For India/China:
EB3 --> GC when you are ready to marry off your grand children
EB2 --> GC when you are ready to marry off your children
I have H1 visa and my company started processing my GG. They published some ads, and in August applied for the LC. It turned out that they used EB3. They said that LC would be ready by February next year. Then it will take 4 years minimum for other steps. I was very surprised that I was EB3 but not EB2.
I have couple of questions:
1. How long does it take if to process it using EB3... 4 years, 5 years?
2. How long does it take if to process it using EB2? I am from Russia.
3. Is it possible to switch to EB2 somehow?
4. If I apply one more time now using Eb2, would it be faster? I will lose time for LC processing.
5. At what step of GC processing can I change a compamy that I work for?

So how does one surrender a Green Card abroad - do they have to go to a US Consular Office/Embassy?
Yes, my dad took his expired GC to the Chennai Consulate when he went for his visitor's visa stamping and let the first level screening officer know that he has this document - she then made a note of it (I think) and asked my dad to hand it over the VO during the interview. When my dad handed it to the VO - he was looking and gazing at it for a while and then took it inside and had a small discussion with a couple of people and then filled out a form and had a notary notorize it and asked my dad to fill out the form and gave my dad a copy and then put it in an envelope and attached this to my dad's visitor's visa file.

Here's our situation:
Both of our GC applications were filed in EB3 categories, by our individual employers, independent of each other.
My priority date is Apr 2002. My 140 is approved and 485 was filed in 2007 and is currently pending.
My husband's 140 is also approved and 485 was filed back in 2005. His priority date is Sep 2003.
Is there any way now to link both our applications, so he can take advantage of my earlier priority date without him having to withdraw his 485 application?

If I get my 3yr H1 extn approved (before 140 cancellation) with company B and company A revokes my approved 140, is it possible to transfer my priority date(of the approved 140 ..which is now revoked by company A) to my new 140 filed by company B?

A priority date can only be recaptured from one approved I-140 to another approved I-140, regardless of whether an I-485 was filed or not.
