Apple is proving a point. A point that most consumers, many people on these macrumors boards and even intelligent users don't understand.
ALL phones are subject to detuning. The amount of detuning is up to the phone but this is natural. When someone told me, your signal drops when hold the iphone in a wierd way....no s***.
Anyone with half a brain should already know the outcome. Also, holding your phone a certain way doesn't create a blackhole. It creates a constant -24dbm drop. I'll say that again. CONSTANT! Not accelerating.

Apple loves its customers so much, they let you view ads for free!
This could actually be made useful if Apple let you accumulate iTunes credit for voluntarily looking at some of the ads

What's the chance that something big is coming to Verizon after the holidays but it's coming from Planet Google?

Well I got it back today (tried it out at the Genius Bar before I left the store) and it's working brilliantly.
Now I have to change my whole workflow again. :(

Why are Apple on a witch hunt?
Apple should concentrate on fixing their problem instead of finger pointing and deflecting the issue onto other companies. We already know the problem isn't as severe on other devices as the iPhone 4.
We do? You've tested them all?

The iPhone 4 also has edge-to-edge glass, that isn't new!
Anyway, I think that the bigger the screen within the current iPhone frame (without making the actual device any bigger), the better!
This will also be easier to adopt for developers, as "old resolution" apps can run with a small black border at the top and on the sides, while new apps can take advantage of a few extra pixels, if the pixel count changes.
If the pixel count doesn't change, but rather stays the same and the pixels get bigger, then the "retina-ness" of the display will get somewhat diluted, but maybe that would even be noticeable at this small scale.
I don't think it would be noticeable.
The size change to the screen that is being suggested is about 8% which on the 326 dpi current screen would see a drop to pretty much bang on 300dpi.
Coincidentally the exact resolution of pretty much all magazine print.
It's not as though people look at magazines thinking "Euuurgh! Look at all those hideous dots!"
And yes, even if you held a magazine the same distance from your face as an iPhone :p
I think a physical size change would attract bad press "Apple makes all iPhone 4 peripherals redundant!!!11" and likewise a resolution change would seriously piss off the development community that is the main breadwinner for Apple in the AppStore.
The double pixel bump from 3 to 4 avoided this because it was a straight doubling of rez so apps could be elegantly(ish) upscaled. Adding a few extra pixels would achieve very little and be extremely annoying for the app devs.
The fact that the 'Retina Display' is established in the public's mind means that they aren't going to notice (or care) about an extremely marginal drop in resolution.
In fact, the only people who will even mention it will be Android owners:D

Great news. Now if only they'd kept Rosetta, I'd upgrade happily. As it is... I'm going to have to stay stuck in Snow Leopard.
I totally agree.
I really don't need to purchase new software that is still functional because Apple deems it obsolete.
Keep Rosetta, it can't be very hard to implement.

Perhaps a "Relevant" button then.
I guess leaving it as a +1 button is pretty much the same thing without using a word.
*shrug*
I just think it may be more troublesome than helpful to have a -1 button. If someone disagrees with a post, they usually respond with an argument. If they agree, unless they have something to add, hitting the +1 button would work, and it would clear up the "Agreed" and "+1" posts.
Well, some places limit the ability to downvote for higher level accounts. Like those who have been around or gained a certain amount of reputation. While others have no downvote ability at all.

Hardly. Do look up "affront" in a dictionary.

Better. Can we turn it off in User CP Options?
I hope we can. I know it has been requested a lot, but I personally find no use for it and I don't like the look of the buttons so would love to be able to hide them.

I thought the same thing, discriminating on us white iPad folks
Nope, just that they are sold out with the White Ipad 2s because they are so popular and everyone wants them. They gotta settle with the black ones since it is sitting on shelves collecting dust;)

Yay, satellites. Or drones. There you go, so much cooler. Space age instead of silly towers.
How a little iPhone could transmit to hundreds of miles into space is problematical, but there is all of this alien technology...
Maybe the data centers are sat communications facilities.
Ahhh, not likely but it is fun to think about.

I thought box cutters were banned? Can you provide a link to support your statement?
Box cutters were banned in response to 9/11. As always, airline security is reactive. Bush sold us a bill of goods while increasing the size and cost of government.

This is exactly the kind of dream house I'd want! Quite big but not too big to loose control over it. Everything makes sense in it and there's nothing unnecessary. I wonder what it would look like on the inside, colors, tables, walls, floor, lights and all that.

An app that brings all the things I hate together. Lovely. I know advertising is a necessary evil but an app that just displays ads? Biggest WTF of the year. I mean really, who the hell could this be marketed to? People that just enjoy looking at tiny, crappy advertisements? No one is that boring or unproductive.

I wonder what the special promotion is.
No kidding. Seems fishy.
And this doesn't change the fact that the practices mentioned in the other thread are not taking place. Or the fact that they will continue to do so.

Interesting...there are 3 files called "MobileTestIPhone.html", "MobileTestIPhoneRetina.html", and MobileTestIPad.html with accompanying Javascript and CSS files in Safari's Resources folder:
