There should have been an option for MacBook Pro chip/case/features update. I would have voted for that one.

It amazes me how many of you sound like little children that didn't get what you wanted for Christmas! And the only thing that blows my mind more is that you sit on this forum and talk about what Apple should have done as if you could make better decisions than SJ himself! If you had all of the data in front of you, which you don't, you wouldn't have the faintest idea what to do! So, get over the fact that Steve didn't give you his "Oh, one more thing" and the fact that the (insert your favorite product here) didn't get mentioned today. And know that Apple will release it when the time is right!

Oh yea, and get a life!

This is America. If the man wants a small house, let him have a small house (The blueprints are for a house smaller than mine, so I call it "small"). If he wanted to live in the back of an El Camino, that's his right also.

Personally, I like old houses and hate the look of modern homes, but that's just me. I also live in what would be considered a larger home, as I have 8 kids and need some space. But I also have a few acres, so the house isn't stuck right next to my neighbors.

However, I did not build my house to compete with or impress the neighbors. Neither did Steve.

    About damn time too...

    ~awesome camera gear~

Looking forward to shooting with this new gear...

 NICE!!! Man, I am green with jealous rage. Makes my 40D, kit lens, and 50 1.8 seem so, so pathetic.

Anyway, my pickup for the day:
    http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5188/5597384894_15041c1f63_b.jpg

Madden Football for 3DS. Not a football fan, at all... and the only football game I've ever purchased was NFL Blitz. But, a buddy of mine was gonna trade it in, and so he said I could just have it for $15. Figured the launch lineup isn't great, anyway... so even if I only get four or five hours of play from it, I'll get my money's worth.

If I could only find a personal use beyond web browsing.

The reason why I didn't buy an Ipad yet. I would only browse on Safari and play games. Something that is available on my Macbook Pro.

these pictures are from a story I read on engadget about some guy that made an aluminum case for his iPhone...and strangley I saw it around March 23, my birthday....which is why I remember it

You're thinking of this one: http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/24/iphone-3gs-mod-ditches-plastic-cover-in-favor-of-titanium-vestme/

This new one is clearly different, I'm leaning towards real. It looks like a little iPad.

    http://www.ip-adress.com/

go here, type in the IP address and it'll tell you exactly where the server is that they are connected to. It gives you the IP latitude and IP longitutde.

tell them that it is being connected at this server location and they'll be able to location exactly which hub it's being connected at and .. yea. trace the burgulars home down..

Man that sucks hard. Last year our apartment was broken into and my girlfriend's 17" Powerbook was stolen and oddly enough some undergarmets from Victoria's Secret. That was all they stole too...I didn't understand why they didn't take the plasma, stereo equipment, jewelry etc. The cops said that the theives were probably in a hurry...

Anyway, there probably isn't anything you can do about it. The cops almost never get prints and (at least in my area) are pretty apathetic about this type of thing. In our case, they didn't really investigate too much at all. There were reports of similar cases at other apartment complexes around the area but I got the feeling that none of the police departments share evidence or collaborated on it because when I called the detectives about it they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about.

Delicious Library is an awesome program!

They told me last night they didn't think they got any good prints. And the ones that were good will turn out to be my own I bet. And yes, Delicious Library rocks. The cop couldn't believe that I had a database of every single game, DVD, CD and book that I owned.

Well now you have an escuse to go out and buy an Elite xbox 360 in black :D

I guess, I'm so sad cuz Guitar Hero 2 comes out in two weeks now and I don't think I'll have a 360 to play it on :(

This really sucks. :( I just bought a new house and am going to almost immediately get it wired up for an alarm, though I probably don't need to. It's out in the middle of nowhere. :P Anyhow, if you want to set up a donation paypal account I bet a lot of us can chip in $5 each or something to help. :)

LOL, if you really feel that bad about it my PayPal address is rtdgoldfish@gmail.com. I won't say no. :D

[QUOTE=Lacero]Hmm... that's a toughie. Let me see. Because everyone REALIZES he isn't responsible!!]

umm.......He is the mayor thats his JOB!!! Why did the mayor lock people in the super dome without adequate recourses? When this brilliant mayor knew 4 days before the storm even hit it was going to be a REALLY bad one why did he NOT do anything when he said HIMSELF a year ago there was a good portion of the population without transportation he still choose to do nothing.

He had over 200 school buses to evacuate people instead he chooses to flood them all.

I am not saying Bush 100% innocent, but what I am saying the Mayor and the governor of Louisiana need to take a good portion of responsibility.

Another reason when both Bush AND Clinton (don't forget him to) cut funding for the levees, the city easily could have floated some bonds to try and protect there city.

Remember its not the job of the president to micro manage the city, (thats why we have mayors).

Point three, why is it that all the wonderful members of the democratic party did NOTHING!!!!

Well, if they treat their customers this way then what do they expect?

Imagine an icecream stand, selling icecream cones "revolutionarily" cylindrical in shape and everyone's icecream fell out the bottom. Then, they remedy this by going "ok, we'll give you all a small piece of paper to glue to the bottom that will sort of fix the problem."

I know. Damn you, Apple, for giving me a better phone than my 3G!! Damn you!!!

I would prefer the cheaper and more effective way; profiling.

Also, you can't say security has been working well-- look at the number of incidences of things going through security accidentally via negligence (knives, guns, etc)-- while there's no official numbers, the anecdotal evidence is quite moving.

Actually, there is documented evidence (which I'm not going to look up, because it supports your contention). The TSA does publish numbers (though buried deep in their reports) on the number of times undercover agents are able to slip weapons through security on training/testing runs. The number is quite high, if you look at it in a "Sky is falling way". But that is the incomplete picture.

Suppose, just for argument's sake, you actually have a 50/50 chance of slipping something through security. Is that "good enough" to mount an operation? Consider that there are at least a dozen people involved, to support just one operative. You can try to separate them into cells - but that doesn't mean that they are entirely hidden... it just gives them time to try to escape while their links are followed. Plus, there is a lot of money involved.

Do you risk those 12 people, plus a large chunk of scarce resources, on a venture that only has a 50/50 chance of getting something onto the plane. (we haven't even considered that most bombs on planes lately have not gone off properly, eg. shoe bomber and underwear bomber)... or that if the intent is to forcibly take over the plane there might be sky marshall - or just a plane load of passengers who are not going to sit idly by.

So you try and reduce that risk by making the plan more "fool proof" and sophisticated - but this adds complexity ...and complex things/plans breakdown and require more resources and more people. More people means adding people with doubts, and the chances of leaking. Plus more resources, which brings attention to the operation. And as you add more people and resources, the "downside" to being caught gets bigger, so you try to reduce that risk by making it even more "foolproof".

If you are one of the 12+ people supporting the operative, and you have a 50/50 chance of being caught and spending a very long and nasty session in jail - even before you get your day in court - and you have no chance of the "ultimate reward" .... don't you think you might start having doubts, and talking to people? Sometimes the wrong people?

I don't buy for a minute all of the stories of traffic cops stopping a car for a routine check and finding "bad things" that were going to be used. The intelligence services have, imho, a pretty good idea of what is happening in these groups, and use these innocent looking traffic stops (and other coincidental discoveries) so that their undercover agents aren't suspected.

That is the value, imo, of the security checks. The barriers are are high enough to get the "bad" operations big and cumbersome, and to make the plans too complex to escape notice by the authorities. It's the planning and organization of getting past the security checks that the authorities are looking for. Once that "bad thing" is in the airport, the authorities have already lost most of the game. Then the security screening is just a last ditch attempt to catch something.

The real danger is the single lone-wolf person with a grudge, who hasn't planned in advance, and doesn't really care if they get caught. They have a 50/50 chance of getting through because the only security layer at that point is the security checkpoint. The intelligence services will not have picked them up, nor will the no-fly list incidentally.

.... all of this is just mho, of course..... read the later john lecarre though, for more chilling details....

So when talking about WWII, we shouldn't mention that Turing was gay?

Why does it matter that he was gay? I thought that gay people where supposed to be the same as everyone else. Did his being gay give him some sort of super powers to break codes?

And what is exactly your point? The specific app is not intended to be a part of the OS interface. It is using a more immersed, recreational interface, which makes it fun to use. (Have a look on the review here to see what I mean: http://www.inews24hs.com/2011/03/15/led-machines-–-led-flashlight-for-iphone-4-review/ ) Users enjoy the animations and sound effects. They are using it for the whole experience, not just for the usability of it.

On the other hand, OS interfaces are belonging to a different category. And although there is a trend to make the native OS apps more immersive (take as an example the new iCal. It uses an interface that tries to emulate a real object, a real leather Calendar), users could have given the option to switch between a more abstract UI style. The main reason of using native OS apps (such as ical, mail, etc) is more task centred rather than experience oriented. The ideal would be not using any interface at all and just have a personal assistant do all the hard work for us accepting voice commands. Hopefully we are not far away from something like that though…

It is interesting to notice that there are two different trends for the interface design criteria of the OS apps. Two different schools. One is the school of immersive interface, such as iCal, garageBand for iPad, iMovie for the iPhone with all the eye candy on the movie selection menu. The other is the minimalistic approach: the new Mail interface, the iPhoto, e.t.c. It is as there are two different interface design teams working in parallel, doing their experiments on UI usability, each following a different direction.

A bit out of topic though!! Lets get back to the slider conversation!!

Was talking about the ad itself, not the UI.

To all the complainers, have you really never sought out an ad? It's not that uncommon:
    http://www.youtube.com/user/adblitz
    http://www.hulu.com/super-bowl-xlii-ads
    http://video.google.com/superbowl.html
    http://superbowl-ads.com/
    http://www.superbowl-commercials.org/

Now I recognize iAds aren't as sought after as Super Bowl ads, and the vast majority of people probably aren't interested in this app. But so what? Don't download it.
